So, Waters of Mars. Hmmm... What to say, what to say? I don't know if it was the fact that I was interrupted in my first viewing about 900 times with all of the company swarming around the house, but I do know that I did not get the usual fangirl-y, happy feeling that I often do with other Doctor Who episodes.

It's not for the reasons I've seen most people site as their problems with the episode. Most people have been commenting on the lack of plot and the overall feeling of it being a "filler"-type special. I think my problem was more with the appearance of Dark!Ten than anything else. David Tennant characterizes the Doctor so well. I know some on my flist don't agree, but I do respect all opinions. I love the old series and I do enjoy each one of the Doctors for the different ways that they have been portrayed. I just believe that David Tennant does a superb job for this incarnation. The shifting of the personality of Ten for this episode was well-done. I found it disturbing to say the least. Sometime along the way, Ten's story had to take a turn like this. His time was always going to come to an end. Looking back to Old Who, there is always a somewhat dark time surrounding the Doctor's regeneration. This is just coming a little sooner than what we were prepared for, I suppose.

It was a little dark for the younger members of the audience. There was talk of people reviewing the episode before I'd seen it. I couldn't resist, and peeked at the spoileriness. Suicide was mentioned in some of the reviews. Toward the end, I surrounded myself in this false sense of security when the Doctor came back and decided to save someone. I thought maybe the talk of suicide pertained to the Captain blowing up the space shuttle or even Adelaide attempting to carry out Action 5. I should have seen it coming toward the end. I was told the last 15 minutes were especially brutal. With all of the yelling between the Doctor and Adelaide about who determines who is important in the universe and "Time Lord Victorious", it was hard not to see that things were getting darker by the minute. I didn't really believe that when she walked into the house that this was how it was going to end. Wow.

More than ever, the Doctor needs someone to cling to; someone to ground him. In "The Runaway Bride", we see how dangerous he can be with no one to stop him. I'd hate to see the last two Tennant episodes be taken over by these darker and darker themes with no point. "The Last of the Time Lords" and "Journey's End" proved that we could have a dark episode that was also epic. I hope that we see this repeated with the mysterious six word title of the Christmas Special and "The End of Time".<endljcut></endljcut>

Halloween was AMAZING. I'm glad to see my flist had fun, too. Wanted to post pics and a little run-down of my day.

A few friends and I went to Goodwill early in the afternoon to get costume pieces. I was dressing as "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" Rose from DW, my roommate was going as a Hogwarts student, and another friend of ours was going as The Joker. :) They still needed costume pieces and I just wanted to go thrift store shopping!

Goodwill was a MADHOUSE! Honestly, I expected nothing less. There were TONS of people getting last minute costumes and just shopping in general. We were able to get out of there in once piece with a green velvet dress/cloak for my roommate and a green jacket for our friend.

Chipotle was having their "Dress as a Burrito" day thingy, so we ran to a nearby grocery store to buy tin foil and proceeded to make creative costume pieces with it. When we walked in, we were informed that the free burrito deal did not start until 6:00. :( We ate there anyway and drove back to campus to start getting ready.

Lots of pics below! Be warned.

I made this TARDIS for our door a few weeks ago, so I could use it as a prop for my costume.

Me as TEC/TDD Rose. :D I'm also wearing this costume for one day at TARDIS in a few weeks. There are a few other small aspects of the costume I'm still working on. (I have an awesome idea for the shoes I'm going to wear.) I'm also wearing an "official" Torchwood nametag that identifies me as "Rose Tyler" (For those people who didn't know what my costume was...).

My roommate (Stef) and I fighting over "The Doctor's" Sonic Screwdriver. We had to throw him out yesterday because he was getting pretty moldy. :( We named him Max.

Our windows decorated for Halloween. They face out on a main path at the University, so we were really excited about decorating. These are bad pics, but this one is the Hogwarts-themed one complete with house crests, a "Welcome to a New Term, Hogwarts Students" sign, ads for Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Botts, and other such candies.

This one is more of a generic Halloween theme. Caution tape, fake spider webs, and glow in the dark stickers are all over these windows. There's even a note from the Phantom of the Opera to Christine. (My idea.) I saw a random black and red rose at Walmart when we were Halloween shopping, and I decided I wanted to decorate with a Phantom reference. Lame, I know. ;)

The wall next to our door when you come in the room.

Our door. Decorated by the lovely Best Friend (also my other roommate), Megan. The door is so tall I couldn't get it all into one shot. I wanted to be able to include all the cute decorations, so I had to break it up into two pics.

Bring on Thanksgiving! ;)

It's just getting sad now. This is PART THREE of the Doctor and His Stethoscope Picspam. This time, we've got pics from "The Next Doctor" and a few bonus ones that I missed from "Partners in Crime".

"The Next Doctor"

"The Hands" + stethoscope always = *squee* for me. I'm sure many of you can understand why. :)

I think this the first time we're seeing the stethoscope put to use on a human. Huh...

As always, David Tennant's facial expressions are quite fabulous. I swear, that man gives 110% to every aspect of his character.

Look!
I know I haven't posted the ENTIRE summer, but I've been so busy! I've hardly had a spare moment to do anything but work. Anyways, here's a little giftie for anyone who wants to snag it. I wanted to post this summer mix before it was too late. :)

Most of the songs in the mix have meant something to be during a past summer or have "summer" in the lyrics. All tracks have been hosted in one folder on Mediafire.
New Shows for Fall '09

    <lj:music>Harry Potter 4 on ABC Family</lj:music>

I'm sure SOMEONE has talked about the new shows that are going to be bombarding the networks this fall, but I wanted to throw in my two cents anyway.

NBC

I'm glad they renewed Parks and Recreation. It really is a quality show and deserves a little more time to be as big as some of its comedy predecessors. After all, The Office was nearly canceled after its first season... I'm a little sad Kath and Kim was canceled, but I'm realistic. It was only a matter of time. Anyway, moving on to the new shows.

There really aren't that many on NBC. I was surprised, though I think that they have been the smartest network about canceling and saving shows. FOX and ABC are really rushing into things lately. FOX was always like this, but it's starting to surprise me coming from ABC. Of course, no one can be as stable as CBS. Just saying.

So...new shows on NBC. There's a new sitcom-type show called Parenthood, a new medical drama Trauma, and Jay Leno's new show. I'm sorry to say, but the only new show I think is worth watching is the new one with Joel McHale called Community. McHale plays a lawyer whose degree has been found out to be not so valid in the U.S. and he has to go back to community college in order to finish and return to his practice. It looks like sort of a dramedy (sp?) and I have little doubt it will be funny. :) There's an extended preview under the cut below that I embedded from NBC's website. Check it out. Community will be on Thursdays at 8:00/7:00c.

<lj-embed id="65" />

The CW

As far as networks go, the CW has to be at the bottom of the barrel. Everyone knows that this was a floundering network from the start. All of their hit shows but a few have been stretched beyond their means. I know that there are plenty of Smallville fans out there, but I also know the series has taken a crazy downturn in the last few seasons. Also, I kind of keep up with One Tree Hill through info I get from my brother. (He's a huge fan.) Apparently, two of their very important and main characters have left the show, yet they are continuing into the next season. The only show I really haven't gotten sick of and hasn't overstayed its welcome has been Supernatural. The CW has really been kept afloat a lot of the time by reality shows such as America's Next Top Model and such. There's also those teenage dramas like 90210 and Gossip Girl... Oh well.

Okay, new shows! Hmmm...there's something called the Blonde Charity Mafia which is a documentary-like series about 20-something socialites in Washington, D.C. There's also a re-make of Melrose Place. The Beautiful Life is about the cutthroat world of fashion modelling, the Vampire Diaries is about two brothers who are also vampires fighting over a mortal girl, and Parental Discretion Advised is about a 15-year-old girl who is sick of foster care, becomes an emancipated minor, then finds her parents who are like kids themselves, then they have to figure out how to live with each other. I have to say that the only show that looks good for the new season is Parental Discretion Advised. The rest seem cliched or I feel like I want to roll my eyes at them. (I'm sorry for the personal bias, everyone. I just feel like, sometimes, The CW doesn't try hard enough.) Unfortunately, this looks to be a mid-season replacement show. Info is HERE on The CW website. :)

ABC

This network has a plethora of new shows. Castle is returning as a full-season show, which I find incredibly exciting. This will have the same time slot as it did this past spring: Mondays at 10/9c. Because there are so many new shows, I'm going to link to ABC's website for the new season, and just talk about the show's that seem interesting. Website is HERE.

Flash Forward is the first show that piqued my interest. It stars Joseph Finnes and John Cho. Description: "A mysterious global event causes everyone to black out simultaneously for two minutes and seventeen seconds, and each person sees a glimpse of their lives six months from now. When they wake up, everyone is left wondering if what they saw will actually happen". The cast seems promising for this one, and the description is definitely intriguing. Flash Forward is on Thursdays at 8/7c.

The Forgotten is about civilian crime solvers helping the police identify missing people's remains. It also looks interesting and different. This is on Tuesdays at 10/9c.

Happy Town is centered on a small, quiet town where nothing really happens...until a secret from the past stirs up questions. Amy Acker is in the starring cast. It looks promising. The show does not have an airing time or date, so I'm almost certain it's a mid-season show. :/

There's also a comedy/mockumentary-style show called Modern Family. This may be good as there certainly have been great mockumentary comedies in the past that have hit our screens (The Office and Arrested Development just to name a few). This one is on Wednesdays at 9/8c.

CBS

Lots of old favorites are returning. Of course, I'm most excited about The Mentalist. :) Again, there are a lot of new shows, so I'm only going to highlight the ones that have sort of piqued my interest. HERE are the descriptions of all the shows.

First of all, I had NO idea Medium moved networks! Shows how much I pay attention. The only show that's really grabbing my interest at the moment is Three Rivers. Alex O'Loughlin from Moonlight stars in this drama as a transplant surgeon. The show revolves around the lives of organ donors, recipients, and transplant surgeons. Sounds interesting, and I'll probably give it a decent chance. I just hope CBS doesn't cancel it like 3 Lbs. :/

FOX

Last, but not least. Lie to Me is back for a full season. I'm a bit happy about that. Fringe was (without a doubt) renewed. Of course, we have Glee. :D If you have not seen the preview episode yet, WATCH IT! It's fabulous, and I truly hope it lasts on this network. I almost have a feeling that this show would have done better on a network like NBC or even ABC. In the fall, Glee is going to be on Wednesdays at 9/8c.

HERE is a list of FOX's fall and winter line-ups. There really isn't that much that's new in the fall. Winter looks to be a bit more packed. 24 is returning for at least one more season. Sons of Tuscon is a comedy in which three brothers hire a con-man to be their father. That may be funny... Past Lives is a show in which investigators use their clients' past lives in order to help them with their investigations...yeah... That's really it.

So, there's my (very detailed) two cents on the subject of the Fall 2009 line-up. I feel a little bit better about it compared to last season. Here's hoping for the best. :)
I don't think there was a moment where I wasn't screaming at the TV.

First: "The Suite Life of Zach and Cas"?!?!? I know EVERYONE is mentioning this, but my first question was: How would Dean have EVER heard or seen The Suite Life of Zack and Cody? I guess Disney really has a farther reach than I realized. I was watching the show with my 11-year-old brother, and he also thought this was hilarious. It was SO RANDOM, and also great comic relief for this episode.

So many things happened in the last five minutes of the show, and I couldn't even process it! Sam was full-on demon boy at the end! It made me cringe... Then, RUBY WAS EVIL ALL ALONG?!?!? I hoped not in the start of the third season, but I had my suspicions. I think we were so far removed from the distrust that no one really questioned it anymore. It makes sense in retrospect. I think there were subtle hints throughout the season to clue us in, but I missed them. Her raising Sam as a "demon killer" went against everything we were being told about the finale and the brothers NOT being on opposite sides. I get it now...

The big question: What is next season going to involve? We know Misha Collins is signed on for next season. There's been a lot of talk by various people that it only makes sense for Castiel to fall. If there's no Earth for him to fall to, what will happen? Is stopping Lucifer going to be the focus of next season, or will it be like last year where we'll pick up four months after the fact and the battle will have already been won? In that case, what will happen after he's stopped. Will we see Sam and Dean trying to help pick up the pieces after this major battle, or will everything be normal again? Kripke promised we would have lots of questions after the finale, and he delivered. I can only hope the next season will be a great one, especially if it's the last.

I had the opportunity of going to the Gene Siskel Film Center at the Art Institute in Chicago this past weekend to see a movie as part of their Asian American Showcase 2009. I enjoy a good Independent Film, and I saw a great one: Karma Calling. The director and cast members were there to answer questions after the movie. It was quite amazing.

It took them three years to make and complete this film. The director advised us to blog, Twitter, or Facebook about the movie if we loved it. I'm doing just that. It was an AMAZING movie, and I really do appreciate the process of a filmmaker just wanting to get their work out there. The film will be shown at Cannes later this year, and there are showings around the U.S. Go to the website if you're interested and get out there and see it! I would recommend it to anyone. :)

Pimping done for today... Back to schoolwork and such.

The first fake!Adventure!Post Pt. 2 has been deleted to make way for the real one! Now that my finals are all over, I finally have time to post pics and vids of the rest of the con! Enjoy! :D

Saturday Night

After a late lunch, we headed back to the hotel for the Lis Sladen panel. I hadn't been to the con before, and I was surprised with the question format of the panel. If we had a question, we were all given a chance to line up in the aisle and would pass the microphone they gave us down the line as we went. I thought that was wonderfully (and somewhat) personal to nearly be face-to-face when we were asking the questions instead of staying in our seats and just standing up.

I can't remember every question, but there are some that stick out in my mind. One man asked about balancing family life with acting. Lis said her family always came first and that she stopped a lot of her acting when her daughter was born. She also said that she always thought people saw her as Sarah Jane with regards to acting. She said she felt like she was behind others sometimes because there was so much time between acting jobs in her career.

There was also a question about her nearly dying on the "Revenge of the Cybermen" set. Lis asked how many people hadn't heard this story before because she wasn't going to tell it if most of us had. A suprisingly large number of people hadn't heard the story, so she said she'd tell it and those who heard it could "put up and shut up."

Lis said that they were filming in a cave that was supposedly cursed. One day her and Ian Marter (Harry Sullivan) were on the set reading over this page of script that seemed strange to the both of them. Lis made a red arrow on her script to remind her to ask the director about the strange scene. The next day they were wrapping up filming for the day and they still hadn't done the strange scene. Lis asked the director about it, and he didn't know what she was talking about. Both her and Ian went back to look at that part of the script, and it was gone! There was the red arrow still on the page from where she'd marked it, but there were no typed lines. She said it was extremely weird and she still didn't know what that was to this day.

It was later in the filming when she nearly died. In the cave, there was a small body of water on which they were filming. Lis had to float across it on this plank of wood, and they flimed her paddling on it. When they looked back at the footage, they realized they had no film of her pushing off of the bank and starting to paddle across. Lis said that she was nervous, and she thought that the raft would be carried away by the current of the water. The man who designed the raft assured her that this would not happen. It did, and she was either going to get caught on a group of rocks down the little stream or be caught under the current of the water. During all of this, they were still filming! She said that she was terrified of going under because she's terrified of being submerged in water in general. She can't even put her face under the shower! :( Finally, one of the crew dove in to save her. She didn't want to swear, so she said she was really "p-ed off" when this happened.

After the story, there were several questions about the Sarah Jane Adventures. One girl asked if K-9 was ever coming back to the show. Lis said sorry, but not in this series. She was hopeful for the next series, though. :) Lis also made mention of how mischievous the kids are on the set of the show, especially Daniel (Clyde Langer). She has a lot of fun filming with them. She talked about how in the old series, when she was with Jon Pertwee, you can always see him turning to her and speaking to her. He was always telling her to slow down and not get in front of him when they were running. Now, she said that she does that to the kids on her show. (Awww.) :)

The best piece of discussion about the show that Lis brought up was how the show is really a comforting escape for children or anyone who is too overwhelmed with the state of the world today. Sometimes all the bad and horribleness is too much, and children need somewhere they can see that good wins and everything will be okay. Lis said that she thought this was a very important message to send out. This is just another amazing statement that shows how Lis is so wonderful (and adorable)!

There was a man who had his turn to ask a question right before me. He started off complimenting Lis, incredibly, about her appearance and her work. He then finished his question with: "Then when does one become such a diva to charge for photographs and autographs?" It seemed like chaos erupted then. The moderator of the sesson stood up and started yelling at the man, telling him that Lis was NOT charging for photos and autographs, but it was the con that WAS. Every (or so we thought) attendee knew it was the con that was charging, and NOT Lis. Lis didn't hear anything beyond "diva", so she asked that he finish what he said. The moderator repeated the question for him. Lis wasn't mad. She was very serious about it. She said it was a fair question, but it wasn't the time or the place to ask it. He could have taken someone aside and asked them anytime while he was attending the con.

It was finally my turn. Trying to recover from my embarrassment over the last question, I tried to gather my thoughts. Lis told me to "lift us up" with my question. I made sure I thanked her first then when on to ask my question. You can see the vid of it just below that <img src='http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif' alt='[info]' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: bottom; I was really there to see India Fisher who I LOVE in the Eighth Doctor, and now Sixth Doctor, audios. This line turned out to be the longest one that we would wait in all day. At this point, they were taking their time sine the lines weren't as long anymore. We sat, played card games, and swapped stories with fellow con-goers while waiting.

It was in this line that I found out why Lis Sladen's photograph session had been moved from 11 to 1. Apparently, Lis' handlers (the assistants assigned to take her from place to place at the con) had gotten the schedule mixed up. The handlers and Lis had gone over to JCPenny in the mall to look around. The handlers didn't realize they had to leave for photos before 11, so they stayed too long. After hearing this story, I had images of unwitting fans who had no idea there was a con going on and spotting her in JCPenny, being terribly confused.

Alex trying to jump rope with his Fourth Doctor scarf. :)

Me jumping rope. :) Best facial expression EVER!

The Big Finish photos went smoothly. While I was in line, I met this woman who was a self-admitted Lisa Bowerman stalker. She wasn't weird or anything. She was just making fun of her fangirliness. She mentioned that she was going to wait around later to try to get a picture and have a brief chat with just Lisa. I wasn't aware I'd get that opportunity, and I mentioned to her that I'd like to do that with India. When I finally got up to take my Women of Big Finish picture, I couldn't figure out how to tell India how much I enjoyed the audios without excluding the others. Instead, I said nothing! I look a bit awkward in the pic, but it went well otherwise. :)

Because it was about 6:30 when we were finished with the Big Finish pictures, we decided just to wander around until it was time for the Masquerade. Somewhere in all the waiting, we spotted India Fisher talking to a small group of people in the lobby. I was really hesitant to approach her because I didn't want to seem like a crazy fan. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate her work. Slowly, I wormed my way into the group. A really wonderful and nice fellow fan assured me it was okay just to jump in and say hi. As soon as I was about to do this, India told the group (which included Jason Haigh-Ellery) that she was going to run some things up to her room and come right back down. This left Alex, <img src='http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif' alt='[info]' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: bottom; Let me say that he is AMAZING. We talked about several of the Big Finish audios, and he asked <img src='http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif' alt='[info]' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: bottom; It was great!

India was soon back, and left talking to these two awkward fan boys. I think she was somewhat grateful thatmrsdrtennant and I joined in the conversation. I told her how much I just loved the audios, and then we somehow got into life and travelling and randomness. She was just adorable, girly, and amazing. :) She was sipping a martini and kept correcting her Britishism to American terms so we could understand her. We assured her we could understand anyway, but she kept on with it. She asked us to describe what Match Game was like because she was doing the intermission for the Masquerade and didn't know what she was doing! After we described it to her, she said it sounded like a British game show they had, so she thought she'd be all right. Then, she was gushing about her cranberry Coach bag that she'd recently got in the Florida Keys because she'd just never seen anything like it before and HAD to splurge on it. Apparently, they don't have Coach in England. o_O. I did not know this. The conversation ended up with me getting invited to have a drink with her in the bar, and I said I couldn't. She asked, "Why? Are you 16 or something?" I said, no, I was 20. :( She was sad, but I told her I'd see her later at the Match Game intermission in the Masquerade. She gave us BIG hugs before she left, and called Alex the "little quiet one in the corner". :D

Apparently, when I was caught up in talking with India Fisher, Alex and<img height="17" alt="[info]" width="17" style="border-right: 0px; The doors opened, she waved to everyone, and the doors closed again. Random!

India Fisher and I! :D Isn't she wearing cute shoes? I just love her now. She may be my new favorite person...

After this, we just waited around outside the Ballroom for the Masquerade to start. We chatted with a few fellow fans. As we were about to go in, we ran into India again. She was running terribly late for the Match Game panel meeting, so we were trying to help her squeeze through. She asked us if we thought she could cut through all the people, and we said we didn't see why not. I told her to "use her celebrity" because everyone should know that she was doing the panel and needed to get up there quickly. "My celebrity," she giggled. "Oh, I love you." Eventually, she was able to get through everyone, and we found our seats for the show.

The Masquerade was AMAZING!  There were quite a few participants, and they were, for the most part, BRILLIANT. <img src='http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif' alt='[info]' width='16' height='16' style='vertical-align: bottom;

The Match Game was HILARIOUS! India had no idea about a lot of the old Doctor who facts, and had to ask Nicholas Briggs, who was sitting next to her, for a lot of the information. At one point, she just answered "Rhino" for several of the questions. Great stuff. :D

I have a TON of panel pics, so if you're interested in more, I'm happy to give or post. :)

It was about 11:30 when we left the con and stopped at Burger King for some well-deserved junk food. The night was quite amazing, and I'm looking forward to next year's con!
This past Saturday I went to Chicago Tardis! It was probably one of the most amazing experiences ever. The con was local, so it wasn't a hard decision to want to go. There's so much I'm afraid I'm going to forget, so I thought it best to type it all out here. I'm sure those of you who weren't able to attend would like to hear about it anyway. Here it goes...

Saturday Morning

I got up at about 7 a.m. to get ready. I was supposed to meet mrsdrtennant</lj> and her brother (Alex) at the mall near the hotel before hand so we could grab coffee or something. We wanted to get there on time for registration, which started at 9 a.m. I left the house at about 8:15. It wasn't a bad drive, and we all were able to grab something to eat before we drove over to the hotel to register. We got to the hotel around 9:30 and jumped in line to get our packets and name tags. We also had to buy a ticket for Alex because he hadn't pre-registered. When we were done with registration, we asked one of the staff members where we would line up for Colin Baker photos that started at 10 a.m. We also asked about purchasing Lis Sladen autographs and photos. All of the staff were amazingly nice and had no problem answering the (many) questions we had. After we'd figured out all of the technical stuff, it was off to get Colin Baker photos!

We were probably somewhere in the middle of the line for photos. The premium members got to go first and then it was the one day or weekend attendees. We talked about a lot of random things. I can't even remember. I do know we had a long discussion about how <img src='http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif' alt='[info]' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: bottom; height: 442px" src="http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a234/ElleKnight/P1010001tardis2.jpg?t=1228116506" />

The rest of the line behind us as we were about to go in.

When it was time to go into the room where Colin was doing photos, we had to show our cards to the door attendant (who was dressed as Jack Harkness and also incredibly nice) to check the event box off. He would be a person we'd come to know at the con pretty well, and always had an interesting story to tell us.

What can I really say about Colin. He was fantastic! I'd put my name badge away and (stupidly) forgot to introduce myself to him when I walked up there. He was lovely, though. I tried to be upbeat and really nice and everything like I try to be when I'm meeting new people and I really don't know what else to do. He was great and called me "honey" several times. It was only when I left the room that I realized that I'd never formally introduced myself. Oops. Oh well, I'd do it when we had the autograph session.

We both look like we're having fun...

Next we stood in line for the Lis Sladen pictures which were scheduled for 11 a.m. We were pretty far up in the line having come straight from Colin's photos. We talked with these two girls behind us who came to the con last year. I dressed up as "Boom Town" Rose, and the one girl said she'd done this last year but didn't feel like dressing up for this one. Her friend was dressed as Two and had also brought a Jaime costume to change into for the other half of the weekend.

It seemed like so much happened when we were in this line! First, Colin Baker walked out of the room to take a break, surprising all of us. We didn't even notice him until he yelled out, "Oh look, here's a line! Let me join it!" By this time, the line had gotten so big that it stretched all the way down the hall almost into the lobby. There were also several cosplayers that were in the line with us. There's a group of people from Canada who I recognized from dw_cosplay</lj> as well as YouTube that were in line right behind us. Another couple came down the hallway dressed as the Doctor and Rose from "The Idiots Lantern". They were spot on with their costumes and their impersonations. It was amazing. At one point, this little girl went up to them, bouncing up and down because she thought they were the real Doctor and Rose. It was adorable!

This was the couple who had the "Idiot's Lantern" costumes. Aren't they amazing? You can also see how big the line was at this point for Lis Sladen pictures.

Me and the coplayers from Canada! There were about ten people snapping cameras at us all at once. I felt like a celebrity...or something. lol :D

At about 11:45 they told us that there had been a scheduling conflict and they had to move the Lis Sladen photos to 1:00. This was an open time slot for us, so we really weren't bothered. They told us to remember the order we were in and this was the order that we would line up in again at 1:00. They also numbered our cards for organizational purposes. We then wandered in to the Colin Baker autograph line because it was already filling up and it was nearly time for them to start letting us in anyway.

We got talking to some more people in this line. Again, it was about the knit scarf. A guy across from us in the line asked us where we'd gotten it and <img src='http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif' alt='[info]' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: bottom; At this point, I left <img src='http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif' alt='[info]' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: bottom; :( As we got into the doorway, we were again treated to a story by the door attendant who was trying to help us remember random facts from the show. Then, we had our Colin autographs. I got my program to the con signed. Right before I stepped up to have my things signed the women helping run the photograph session were asking mrsdrtennant</lj> and I if we wanted to buy a professionally done photograph. We both said we were poor college students. Colin over heard this and yelled: "Give these girls some money!" Then, to me, he said: "Oh, here, Mike (the guy in line in front of me) will give you some money." Suddenly, it was my turn. This is pretty much how are conversation went:

Me: (Stepping in front of him): Hi, I'm Taylor. (I steadied my name tag in front of me in case he'd misheard or something.)
Colin: You are Taylor, aren't you?
(I must have giggled or something at this point. mrsdrtennant</lj> was just DYING behind me because she LOVES Colin Baker.)
Me: So, are you having fun.
Colin: I am now that you're here, Taylor.
(Again, more laughing from me and mrsdrtennant</lj> . I also think there was more to our conversation here, but I can't remember.)
Me: Enjoy the rest of your time here.
Colin: You take care now. Especially with those wonderful mittens. (He was talking about my wrist warmers. lol)

He then proceeded to tell mrsdrtennant</lj> about how she looked like his niece when she was 18. It was hilarious!

Saturday Afternoon

It was nearing 1:00, and we were getting ready for Lis Sladen pictures (finally!). We had to meet in a side room off the hallway that was being used to round people up or just line them up off to the side so there wasn't so many people just randomly standing around. The group of Canadian cosplayers were already there and one of them who was dressed like the Doctor was playing with a remote control K9 and all these little kids were trying to disable it with their Sonic Screwdrivers and Lipsticks. So cute. It wasn't long until the photos started up. It seemed to take forever, though, because of how excited I was. I'm short and was trying to stand on my tip toes over people to just see her for the first time. It was hilarious and sad.

When we got in there, we paid at the door for one photo with mrsdrtennant</lj> and I together. I'm glad we did it this way. I really didn't know what to say to Lis Sladen, but somehow the whole thing turned out amazingly.

Lis: Oh so trendy. (I must have said thank you. I don't know. lol) I'm so cold, and now I have two girls to keep me warm.
(I originally didn't sit too close or do anything because I wasn't sure what she wanted to do. With some of the other people in the pictures, they weren't sitting close or anything. Lis GRABBED us to her, and told mrsdrtennant to share the chair with her. It was adorable!)
Lis: Come here girls. Snuggle, snuggle.
(After picture.)
Lis: That was the first time I've been warm the whole time here.
Me: (Reaching out to shake her hand.) It was wonderful to meet you.
Lis: Oh you, too. Cheers.

Lis is so much more petite in person than I thought. She was just adorable! I have no more words than that. :)

Lis Sladen! Yays! :D Doesn't she look fabulous? This is a picture of a picture, btw, so sorry about the quality. I'll have to scan in the actual copy later on...

It was now our first free period of the day. It was about 1:30, and we decided to hit the dealer's room. The Colin Baker panel was at 2:00, so we had to hurry a little. I was also starting to think about getting a Lis Sladen autograph as well. I'd probably need to hurry and get in line for that if I was going to do it. On the way to the dealer's room, we got distracted and listened to a few minutes of the Big Finish panel complete with Nicholas Briggs. I spent maybe 10 minutes in the dealer's room, bought a button, and told my companions that I'd meet them outside the ballroom when I was done with autographs.

There's Nicholas Briggs with the microphone! We randomly stumbled upon this panel while going toward the dealer room.

I was farther back in the line this time for autographs. I did meet this wonderful girl, Carly, who drove up from New Orleans because they don't really have cons like Tardis down there. She was incredibly nice, and it was interesting to just talk about random stuff with someone new. I didn't get into the room with Lis until about 2:45. It was worth the wait, though. Again, our friend at the door had an interesting story to tell us. Apparently, someone ran over to Target (which was right next to the hotel) to get Lis a smoothie. I just thought that was random and funny. When I stepped up to get my autograph, the guy in front of me asked her how she enjoyed her smoothie. She said it gave her a brain freeze (she used another term that was a Britishism) and was more slushy than she thought. It might not have been the best idea when she was cold she said. She was involving several people around in the conversation, which made it seem way more casual, and I really liked that. When I got up there, I wanted to say something better than I had last time...

Me: Hi, I'm Taylor. (Again, I steadied my name tag.)
Lis: Taylor? (I shook my head.) Everyone has such lovely names here.
Me: I really love your coat. (She had on this black and white checkered coat that was just amazingly cute. I loved it.)
Lis: (She looked surprised.) This? Oh I know, it's cold in here. (Leans over to staff member next to her.) Isn't it cold? (He said yes.) Is it always this cold? Because I know you call it the Windy City...
Me: Yeah. We have really cold winters and really hot summers.
Lis: Well, I remember being here a few years ago in the summer with my husband, and it was very hot. (She was still also talking to the guy sitting next to her.) I just hope it doesn't snow for my flight out.
Me: I'm sure it won't. It's still a little early. (I was WRONG! I lied to Lis Sladen. Ooops...)
(Again, there was some more in here somewhere, but I can't remember it.)
Me: I just wanted to say that I love all your work in Doctor Who, and I watch the Sarah Jane Adventures all the time. (I stopped myself because I thought I sounded a little crazy...)
Lis: (At this point she started to sign my program and a picture I'd gotten of her with K-9.) How old are you if I may ask, Taylor?
Me: 20.
Lis: Twenty? Now, see, that just amazes me. Isn't it amazing? (Again to the guy next to her.) It surprises me to see all the fans of different ages now. All the young people!
Me: And I know my dad really enjoyed you in the old series.
Lis: Now, see that's what I mean.
(At some point I said goodbye to her and such.)

My companions were waiting outside for me. It was about 3:10 at that point, so we decided to get some lunch at the mall...

Another post about the second half of the day coming tomorrow... I'll have video then, too!

Because this fandom needs more fic love, I decided to take a leap and post my fic. Enjoy and let me know how it is!

Title: Stuck in an Elevator With Patrick Jane
Characters: Patrick Jane, Amanda the intern (OC), Teresa Lisbon
Rating: G
Author's Note: Just a little piece that came out an interesting conversation with some friends about who you'd like to be stuck in an elevator with if the situation arose. This is NOT self-insertion fic or anything like that, just an interpretation of how it would be to be stuck in an elevator with Patrick Jane on a particular day. Summary: Patrick Jane finds himself having an interesing Tuesday morning...

It was a Tuesday afternoon. He could remember that because Lisbon was always in a good mood on Tuesdays. This was the day she had her 6:00 a.m. yoga class. In a Patrick’s mind, he knew he could get away with just a little more than usual on Tuesdays. This Tuesday he was strolling in the CBI offices an hour later than he usually came in. Patrick hadn’t been late in vain. He had a drink tray full of Starbuck’s coffees and a small bag of scones clutched in his left hand. The team would be less cranky after they loaded themselves up on caffeine and sugar.

Looking forward to a hassle free day, Patrick stepped into the lobby elevator.

“Hold it!” A feminine voice echoed into the car. Moments later, a girl came skidding toward the elevator. Patrick stuck his foot in the door to stop it from closing.

“Thank you,” the girl sighed, finally settling herself in the elevator.

Patrick took in her appearance. She wore a coat that was a little too heavy for the current season. Underneath, she’d tried a simple, but elegant, scarf (probably the most expensive thing included in her outfit) around her neck. This coupled with her simple, white Oxford and black pants told him she was an intern, possibly still in college, who was working at the security agency the CBI shared their office building with.

At Patrick’s scrutiny, the girl began fiddling nervously with her scarf.

            “Nice scarf,” He commented, lightly.

“Oh,” she sounded almost startled. “Thanks.”

They lapsed into another momentary silence watching the numbers climb: Third floor, fourth floor – The elevator creaked violently, lights flickering, before it came to a slow stop.

“What happened?” The girl asked him.

“We’re stuck,” he responded, setting the coffee and scones on the floor and going over to press the alarm button.

“What’s your name?” Patrick asked, fiddling with the elevator panel and trying to pry the elevator phone out of its compartment.

“Amanda,” the girl answered, sitting down on the elevator floor.

“Well, I’m Patrick,” he responded, not looking up.

            “Hi,” she shot back.

This time he stopped the fiddling and looked up at her,

            “Hi.”

“How long are we going to be stuck here?”

Patrick couldn’t miss the slight tremor in her voice or the way she seemed to be clutching her bag.

            “Amanda, are you claustrophobic?”

            “N-No.”

He sighed, heavily, giving up on the elevator panel and sitting down across from her. Amanda looked at him expectantly while he dug through his jacket pockets for his cell. He chuckled when he saw that he had no signal.

            “Of course.”

“W-What?” Amanda asked, crawling over to glance at the phone. “Oh great!”

“Such a typical scenario, isn’t it?” Patrick went on, “Two strangers get stuck in an elevator on an otherwise perfect Tuesday morning.”

            “And I’m late,” Amanda added.

“And one of them happens to be late for a very important appointment… First day of work?”

            Her eyes widened.

            “How did you know?”

            “Really? Honestly?”

She shifted to face him, instantly curious.

“Yeah, I want to know your secret.”

            He gave her a smile.

“The outfit gives it away. You’re an intern, not fully in the working world quite yet, hence the slightly out of season coat. You want to be classy but make a good impression, hence the nice scarf. You’re also a bit nervous as evidenced by how much you seem to be attached to your bag right now.”

Amanda looked down at her hands, instantly removing them from the handles and settling them into her lap.

            “Sorry,” she immediately blurted.

“Nothing to be sorry for,” Patrick told her. He kept his best reassuring face on. “Just take a deep breath.” He nodded at her to do so.

A smile erupted on her face as she complied.

            “Okay, deep breath. Did that.”

He was still looking at her, and after a moment of silence, she felt compelled to continue.

“You know, I think I’m more nervous about the first day at my job than being stuck here.”

“Why’s that?” He almost chuckled while he handed her a coffee and the open bag of scones.

“Aren’t these for someone?” Amanda asked, her hand poised over the bag.

“Well, yes, but they’re not stuck in an elevator at the moment and currently facing their first day of work.”

“Thanks.” She reached for a blueberry scone on the top. He helped himself as well.

“So what do you do, Patrick? Do you regularly help freaked out girls in elevators on their first days of work?”

“No, actually. I’m a consultant for the CBI.”

“Oh really? Do you do anything exciting?”

“Field work, solve crimes. I’d say it’s fairly interesting.”

“Sounds better than being an intern for Johnson’s Home Security. ‘The most high tech system around!’” She mimicked the well-known commercial which regularly aired on area cable.

“Okay, okay,” Patrick held up his hands in a gesture of surrender. “If you’re interested, I could look into getting you an interview with the CBI.”

“Really? You have that kind of pull?”

“Well, my department might,” he answered, vaguely.

Both jumped at the sudden ringing of Patrick’s cell. He stood up, glancing at the caller ID.

“Lisbon!” He answered. “Great to hear from you.”

“We’re working on getting you out right now. The speaker system in the car seems to be malfunctioning. Is there anyone else in the elevator with you?”

“Yeah,” he glanced at Amanda to be sure she was still okay. “There’s an intern named Amanda. She’s from Johnson’s Home Security. Do me a favor and let their offices know she’s here, thanks. Oh, and who would I ask about hiring an intern for our offices?”

            Lisbon snorted in amusement,

“I will, and I have no idea. We can talk about this later when you’re not stuck in an elevator. “

“Fair enough. How long do you think it’s going to take them?”

There was some mumbling in the background as she consulted with who Patrick could only assume were the maintenance people.

            “Fifteen minutes.”

            “Great. See ya.”

“See ya,” Lisbon responded. He could hear the rolling of her eyes over the phone.

“Okay, fifteen minutes,” he told Amanda, who was cautiously sipping at her coffee. He sat back down.

            “How’s the coffee?”

“A little too hot, but there’s just enough cream and sugar. Perfect.”

“Good. Keep drinking it. You’ll need it.”

            “Why?”

“Well, besides your first day it’s good to have something warm and sweet in your stomach if you’re a little panicky. No offense, of course.”

“None taken. I am glad ended up here with someone else. I would have been a mess by myself.”

            Patrick shrugged,

            “Good timing, I guess.”

“It’s a little more than that I think. This is probably the best day I’ve had in awhile. At least the most interesting.”

“Well, Amanda, this is probably the most relaxing day I’ve had in awhile.”

“And all because we got stuck in an elevator,” she mused.

“Not so scary after all I suppose?” He leaned down to catch her gaze.

            Amanda just shrugged.

The elevator shuddered, suddenly. Both passengers got to their feet, hoping to finish their ascent. The car soon reached its destination on the eighth floor, and the doors opened. Lisbon stood there with one of the maintenance workers and a paramedic.

“Now there was no need for that,” Patrick snorted at Lisbon, nodding his head toward the paramedic.

“It was a precaution.” Then, as if noticing Amanda for the first time, she asked,

            “Are you okay?”

Patrick reached back to put an arm around the girl’s shoulders.

            “We’re just fine.”

“Yeah, wasn’t bad,” the girl agreed, shrugging.

“The coffee, Jane,” Lisbon stated, pointedly and indicating the drink tray still on the elevator floor.

“Oh right,” he smiled, retrieving the drink tray and handing it to Lisbon.

            “Happy Tuesday.”

He led Amanda out of the elevator past their three rescuers.

Lisbon just ignored the strange looks she was getting from the men standing on either side of her. Instead, she took a sip of the coffee that was marked for her.

“Too much cream,” she called out to him. He just waved a dismissive hand back at her, continuing to walk Amanda down the hallway. Lisbon let out a small chuckle. This is why Tuesdays were her favorite days.

How about that Children in Need sneak peak yesterday?

Let me first say that I LOVE David Morissey as an actor and would love for him to play Eleven. I just don't think all of the hype and (obviously) the title of the Christmas special would be so blantantly obvious to point him out to be the next Doctor if he really was going to step into the role. There are a few other reasons why I think this whole thing is a red herring:

* Introducing the next incarnation would sort of ruin the suspense of it for viewers. We enjoy watching the Doctor regenerate and seeing the teeth-grinding, edge-of-your-seat moment in which this occurs. To take that away from the viewer would be almost anticlimactic. *shrug*

* David Morrissey's "Doctor" has similar mannerisms to Ten. All Doctors are unique. To have both Eleven and Ten saying Allonz-y (sp?) and other similar behaviors is odd. All Doctors have their own personalities and own random traits. I think that there's a valid reason for this copying of behavior, which I'll go into in a moment.

* The "new" Doctor comments that "this is new" when referring to a creature with a Cyberman's mask on emerging from the door. It could be debatable what he is referring to: the creature or the Cyberman's mask. If it is in fact the Cyberman's mask, then being the Doctor he would know what a Cyberman was...

* The fact that David Morrisey's "Doctor" is in period dress also sends up a red flag to me. The Doctor seldom changes his wardrobe for the time period he is in, in ANY incarnation. He does not mind "not blending in" as long as you "act like you blend in". I'm not saying he NEVER changes to fit in, just that I don't think 1851 warrants a drastic change of wardrobe in his book.

Who I think this "new" Doctor really is: A con artist/someone who feels they themselves are not good enough who has heard of the Doctor and all that he can do. He's taken on this girl (who's probably fallen on hard times/ is in a hard situation/maybe is even of our time or the future) and promised her a better life as long as she "travels" with him. He throws terms around that the Doctor (Ten) spouts off commonly that could have been told to him by anyone, and the Sonic Screwdriver just looks...I don't know. Not real. It looks like a regular screwdriver or tool to me. I really can't tell, though.

I'm really excited for the Christmas Special! Again, not saying anything against anyone. I'm just offering some healthy, silly theories about the show. :)
